WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART (1756–1791)

(Composer) was the rock star of his day—brilliant, rebellious, and unstoppable. A child prodigy who played for royalty, he spent his life pushing music—and society—to its limits. Don Giovanni, premiered in 1787, is a collision of elegance and chaos, seduction and consequence. Like many great artists, Mozart died far too young, at just 35, but left over 600 works that still ignite the stage. Mozart never wrote to preserve tradition—he wrote to challenge it. Over two centuries later, Don Giovanni still demands to be heard with urgency, wit, and danger.

LORENZO Da PONTE (1749–1838)

(Original Italian Libretto) lived many lives: priest, poet, exile, librettist, immigrant, professor, and cultural provocateur. Born in Venice and eventually buried in New York, Da Ponte wrote the libretti for two of Mozart’s other greatest operas—Le Nozze di Figaro and Così fan tutte, both of which are quoted in tonight’s version. Fluent in scandal and satire, his writing skewered hypocrisy and elevated human desire to poetic art. Like Mozart, Da Ponte never played it safe. His libretti weren’t just words set to music—they were acts of rebellion.

He is the founder of the Adam Levowitz Rock Orchestra, known for transforming the iconic soundtracks of films like Tarantino’s early work into electrifying live events. A U.S. Army veteran and recipient of the Army Achievement Medal, he composed the official song of Walter Reed Army Hospital. His music has been performed worldwide—from the steps of the U.S. Capitol to concert halls and stages across the world.
